Meet Farley, the first of 1,000 Golden Retrievers to be featured in the 1000 Goldens Project. Farley was born in Otisville, MI and just celebrated his 4th birthday in July 2008.
What made you choose a Golden Retriever?
When my husband was a little boy, his first pet was a Golden. We were always enamored with Golden puppies and have friends with Golden's we love. We always knew it was the right breed for us.
What are the 10 things you love about your dog?
- Being greeting every day after work with unbridled joy
- The show he puts on when he gets a new toy
- The fact that he wants to befriend everything that crosses his path
- When he's really relaxed and you pet him, he literally makes a purring sound, like a kitten
- The enormous sigh he lets out when he stretches out and calls it a day
- Watching him put his head out of the car window and savoring the wind
- His passion for peanut butter
- When he sleeps on top of my feet while I'm working at my computer
- The fact that he believes he's a lap dog and needs to snuggle
- The way he adoringly gazes at his dad
What is one of your favorite memories with your Golden?

Farley was an incorrigible puppy. I don't remember the specific circumstance, but we had to put him in a "time out" which really hurt his feelings. When we went to check on him, imagine our surprise when we saw this! (see photo). He decided to punish us, by hiding beneath a piece of furniture and pouting. It took some coaxing to get him to forgive us, but he eventually crawled out a few steps at a time, while keeping his chin on the ground with a very sad expression, to let us know how upset he was.
Tell Us Your Story
Contact us to have your Golden Retriever featured on this site. If you choose, your story will be considered for a future book project designed to honor and celebrate the breed. Once the book is complete, 100% of the books proceeds will be donated to the Golden Retriever Foundation, an organization dedicated to Golden research, rescue and education. This posting is sponsored by the "Love is Golden" Bumper Sticker
